Star Shri Individual Care Insurance

In a country like India, people generally don’t prefer to invest on insurance policies. They would rather make some savings in their bank accounts. Even if some people are wise enough to buy themselves insurance policies, they keep on confusing between, a health insurance policy and life insurance policy. That’s because both these plans are equally important. Are you going through this same state of dilemma? Well, here is the answer to your confusion – Star Shri Individual Care Insurance! This policy of jointly provided by Star Health and Shriram Life Insurance Co.Ltd.

This exclusive insurance plan provides the policyholder with regular hospitalization covers (Section 1) as well as lump sum payment against an event of death (Section II).

Policy benefits

Coverage under Section 1 – Health Insurance

As told earlier, the benefits under Section 1 are regular and are more or less similar to any other health insurance policy. It covers hospitalization expenses for 24 hours or more of continuous hospitalization. This cover includes – boarding and room charges. This amount is calculated at the rate of 2% of the sum covered. The maximum limit for the same is Rs. 4000/day. In case of death of the beneficiary (policyholder), the policy is liable to pay the specified sum insured to the nominee during the tenure of the policy.
Other related charges, like the fees of surgeon, consultant, specialist and anesthetist as well as the cost of drugs and medicines are also included. There is a waiting period of 90 days under this section. This period starts from the acceptance date of the policy. This term only covers the cases of accidental death, not death due to other reasons.
Emergency ambulance expenses incurred to shift the insured patient to a medical facility are also covered. It is maximum Rs. 750/hospitalization and maximum Rs. 1500/policy year. Once this term is over, all deaths (even suicidal death) are payable. Of course, they are subject to compulsory exclusions.
This Section also covers nursing expenses. The policyholder is not allowed to take any loan under this plan.

Other benefits

Pre-existing health conditions

  • Star Shri Individual Care also covers pre-existing health issues. However, this provision gets activated after 48 months of uninterrupted insurance with the insurance provider under Section 1.

Pre and Post Hospitalization cover

  • The former coverage pays for the medical expenses incurred by the insured before admission to a hospital. It pays for the period of maximum 30 days before hospitalization.
  • The latter coverage is calculated at the rate of 7% of the total hospitalization charges, expect room rent. One can avail a maximum of Rs. 5000/-.
  • Both these clauses mentioned above are under Section 1.

Non-allopathic treatment

  • It is also covered under Section 1.
  • The compensation is calculated at the rate of 25% of the capital sum insured.
  • The policyholder can avail Rs. 25000/Occurrence/Policy Term

No-Claim Rebate

  • The policyholder is entitled to get a discount of 5% for every ‘no claim’ year.
  • A maximum of 25% can be availed.
  • This provision is also under Section 1

Eligibility

  • Proposals from individuals between the age group of 18 years to 50 years are accepted.
  • Under Section 1 of the policy, dependent kids from the age of 5 months can be covered along with their parents.
  • After the age of 60, only renewals would be accepted.
  • Also, after 60 years of age, the health insurance plan can be renewed under any other similar health plan offered by the insurance provider.
  • Life coverage would be valid after the age of 60 years.

Rate of Premium

The rate of premium is reviewable, but on completion of 5 years of the policy term. Thereafter, on every anniversary, the premiums can be reviewed.
